Take your faith deeper and prepare yourself for ministry!
If you've completed a DTS, you've already learned foundations of Christian discipleship. But how do you then start teaching others? That's what the School of Biblical Studies (SBS) is about: Within one year, students dive into more advanced methods of Bible study and how to apply this to sermons, group lessons, and so on.
Tools to be bold Teachers
The SBS will surely stretch you intellectually, but the deeper purpose is to give students the tools to live and teach as a Christian leader. It allows you to see the Bible in context, unlock the bold promises of scripture while also being humble and not being tempted to read into things. By the end of the SBS, you will be able to do research and teach others in a balanced way, even when another teacher isn't always around to guide you.
What does an SBS look like?
Part 1: Lecture Phase
During lecture phase, students read through the entire Bible and take a deep look through inductive Bible study: Learn to see the text as it is, rather than read into it or pull things out of context. In addition to lectures, students are involved in work duties, small groups, worship, intercession, and many creative methods of learning. Topics include:
-
Inductive study of the whole Bible
-
Scripture interpretation from different viewpoints
-
Application of biblical principles for today
-
Recognition of the Holy Spirit as the principal teacher of scripture
Part 2: Outreach Phase
During the 12 weeks of outreach, the student practices what they have learned during the SBS in a real church environment. Further book study is done in the areas of communication, principles in Bible study, preaching, and teaching. The local pastor they are working with evaluates the students during this time.
-
Leading worship and intercession
-
Preparing and teaching Bible Studies for various age groups
-
Preaching sermons

SBS Leader: Emmanuel Osipa
Emmanuel has lead several SBS classes over the years and also teaches religious education at the Hopeland Primary School. He enjoys challenging his students to not accept the teacher’s words without thinking them through: Not every teacher will be giving wise counsel, and it’s important for any Christian to learn to study the word of God and the words of people on their own, so they can come to a mature opinion rather than just repeating something without understanding.
